HOW FLIPPIN' CUTE!!!

For any given awards show, the attending celebs are typically invited to a gifting suite. You've heard of the latest, greatest tech toys, watches and other baubles, fine candies, etc. being lavished upon them in hopes that they will love the product and spontaneously mention it in a press clip-- or better yet, buy it by the caseload!!! Well this year at the Daytime Emmys, the swag bag included a card with a promotional offer for these oh-so cute flip flops. Truthfully, it took a minute to get around to opening the bag and going thru the goodies, but once I saw these, I knew I just had to share.

A high school friend of mine started the most amazing non-profit organization. It's called Christmas 365, and through the organization, she and her husband adopt and provide basic needs for as many families as they can support for 365 days (I believe this year they are helping 14 families). That's giving money, food, books, shoes, clothing, whatever for a whole year: CHRISTMAS 365!!!! A couple of weeks ago, she had a fundraiser for the organization which she called, "Christmas in July." There were Christmas trees with white lights; a beautifully catered dinner; Lightfoot, a comedian who used to open for Frankie Beverly and Maze and has become a family friend (her husband, Larry Kimpel, is Frankie's bass player); and a DJ who was spinning some music we all know and to which we love to jam!!!

As we were steppin' to R. Kelly's. "Step in the Name of Love," I looked in the corner, and this is what I saw:

Christmas, and a whole bunch of hurtin' shoes we had taken off to get our groove on!!!!!!

Every once in a while something comes along that is truly revolutionary. Until today, I had never heard of a minx manicure or pedicure. Well, that's not exactly true. I purchased a Groupon for the service about six weeks ago, and that's when it came to my attention; I just used it today. But lest I get bogged down in the insignificant, let me get to my real point: MINX MANIS & PEDIS ARE A MUST!!! Initially, the pedicure process is the same. The ultimate difference is the "nail polish". I use quotes because it really isn't polish. They are sized sheets of color, almost like appliques, which, after warming them with a lamp, the nail tech applies to your nails. You can choose from solid colors or intricate designs. You can also take a page from my book and combine the two. But the best part is that there is NO drying time, the film is super shiny and it lasts four to five weeks. It just doesn't get any better!!!!!!!

DON'T FORGET THE BODY MAKEUP!!!!

For all the fabulosity- YES!!! I said FABULOSITY!!!!- that these shoes possess, what I really notice are the red bites and blotches on her legs. And for me, they completely distract my attention from the sandals, and put it exactly where it shouldn't be: on her uneven skin tone. I bring your attention to this just as a reminder that summer is quickly approaching, and as we bare our legs and arms in shorts and mini skirts, t-shirts and halter tops, pay attention to little flaws like this which can be easily remedied with a little makeup. A smooth leg is a SEXY leg....

Choose a makeup that is transfer-resistant and waterproof so it will work for you whether you're at a party or on the beach. Make sure that it blends well with your skin color so that is undetectable, and doesn't sit on your skin like makeup. And finally, don't forget to cover your corns and rub marks on your feet that you get from your FAB stilettos!!!

2011 SPRING/ SUMMER SHOE REVIEW

This week, I thought I’d take the time to remind you of some of the hotness available in footware for Spring/Summer 2011. We first saw these last fall, but now that they’re in stores, it’s good to remember what’s here and now!!!

Political gaffes aside, John Galliano produced some sizzling shoes for Dior in his Spring/ Summer 2011 collection. The frolicking fun of the color, the slim sexiness of the heels make these shoes a standout this season. OH, HURT ME!!!!

In October of 2010, I had the wonderful fortune to be asked to do a job on a cruise which was sailing to Roatan, Honduras, Belize City, Belize, Costa Maya, Mexico and Key West, Florida. As a part of the gig, we participated in several tours which we had permission to photograph. I, knowing that I wanted to share this series of pictures on the FEETOLOGY blog, took photos showcasing the feet of the locals, more specifically in this case, the natives who performed dances to tell the history of Honduras.

Over the years, I've developed a collection of toe rings: some with Swarovski crystals, some silver and some with ornate beading. But, my favorites are the seven gold bands- a blend of plain and diamond-studded rings- which I have stacked on the second toe of each foot. I like to think that with candy-apple red polish on my toes, my corns covered with T!NTALIZE® concealer, and a pair of strappy stilettos, my feet look irresistably sexy!!! Then I saw the barefoot sandals in the picture, and I knew I could take my sexy to a whole new level. They're perfect for strolling the beach or lying on the deck of a boat. When I decided to do "THE FEET WE SEE" series of photos, my overriding thoughts- and fears- were, first, how to keep it interesting, and, second, how not to let it be so superficial that it just became a string of pretty feet shots. So, I've included, and will continue to include, the not so pretty and, hopefully, the inspirational, to tell a bigger and better story. That, however, is not the case today. One of my Facebook friends sent a very sexy pic of a woman's legs from her rear down, and the feet were clad in maribou feather mules. And that got me to thinking....

Ballet dancers have a secret. It is hidden under satin, and we are further distracred by the grace and the beauty of a dancer's body in motion. Insiders are hesitant to reveal the secret for fear of embrassing the dancers, but the truth remains. Dancers have ugly feet. The years of pounding and strain that their feet endure create crooked toes, discolored nails and skin rubbed raw. Not to mention calluses, corns, and bunions. The wear and tear is endured to achieve performances that appear graceful and effortless. "It looks so beautiful but it's physically brutal," says Lisa Hansen about the ballet. Hansen is one in a group of physical therapists from Orlando Regional Rehabilitation Services who completed baseline screening for the Southern Ballet Theatre last week. Along with an orthopedic physican and an athletic trainer, they donate their expertise to measure and record the dancers' basic range of motion and fitness as a background for an future injury treatments. The first stop for the dancers in the afternoon of measuring everything that bends was to step on a large protractor. They pointed their toes outward, toward ballet's "first position." The dancers casually swivel their toes toward 80 or 85 degrees. the extra push to a perfect 90 degrees is easy. The dancers can bend so easily, says Hansen, because they have all started stretching out pliable limbs as childern in early dance classes. As adults their overall range of flexibility is off the charts, even compared to athletes the therapists normally treat. The dancers have superb strength. Usually, the therapists see either strength or flexibility in athletes, but not both. The dancers, says Hansen are in better shape than almost any football player. The dancers also can bend their knees slightly backward into hyper- extension. It's a talent that may come back to haunt them. "It's good for ballet," concedes Hansen, "but it's bad when you're 60.'

These feet belong to St. Frances of Assisi, and they have been arguably labeled "The World's Worst Feet". (I say arguably because one time, on a return trip from Ensenada, Mexico to Los Angeles, we were routed through downtown Tijuana. As we approached the onramp to the freeway, there was a barefoot woman whose right foot was obviously severely diseased. It was swollen three to four times the size of the left one; it was twisted on her leg; the toes overlapped each other; it and the entirety of her being were as dirty as those in the picture above. I remember her so clearly....) Nonetheless, St. Francis walked miles everyday on broken rock, dirt, ice and snow as he and his followers traveled preaching the Gospel. His feet were covered with bloody wounds, blisters and scars; his ownership of shoes was typically short-lived because he gave them away to anyone who didn't have them. He was almost always barefoot. Bless you, St. Francis.

FEET... They always bear the weigh of our bodies, but if we search the world wide, they are rarely adorned and pampered as they should be. But not these!!! These feet have been pedicured and stenciled with a beautiful henna tattoo. Long live the adorned foot!!!

For the foreseeable future, we're going to present a new section in our blog: THE FEET WE SEE. This is a place for us post pictures sent to us from our followers as well as any and all feet that happen to capture our attention. The feet aren't always all pretty and polished. In fact, those with which we are starting are a pair that are quite unadorned. But, they get this model around quite well, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Hopefully, this will inspire you because... everyone has feet!

Ladies,

It's time to sport sassy sandals and sexy stilettos. And we don't need our feet lookin' chewed up and spit out from our pumps. This is our place to get real, to share secrets on how we keep our feet naughty and nice. I'm in LA. And I was thinking it would be great to start with a list of favorite pedicurists. I have a couple: Jeanne at Golden Touch Salon on Manchester and 7th Avenue (YES!!! She's IN THE HOOD) and Mimi at Soleil Nails on Pico and Shenandoah. Just so you know, neither of these places is fancy, the decor is BASIC. However, the nail techs and their instruments are clean and they take their time to service you. I've been to Frederic Fekkai in BH and to various spas in hotels across the country, and for the money, these are bar none the BEST services I've received. Jeanne charges $35 for a spa pedicure; Mimi charges $22 for a mani/pedi combo (the pedi is $13 by itself). But what I like about both of them is that they really work on your feet to get rid of calluses and the dead skin that can make feet look tired and just plain awful.

Also, if you ARE concerned about bacterial infections, the techs at these salons do not mind if you bring your own supplies.
